Health and Fitness - Urban Legends Exposed for Truth

No matter if you are old hand or new at health and fitness education the overall amount of information can seem a bit staggering. Beginners often get overwhelmed trying to decipher lies from the truth. One of the first things you'll notice is that fitness books are most usually written by those who have personal experience or knowledge of the subject. There are of course a lot of different approaches to fitness, yours will depend heavily on what you plan to do. It is more than likely that you will find information that seems conflicting even though it may not be completely false. Carefully analyze everything you learn.

It may surprise you to learn that even the treadmill has myths that have to do with your knees. Some people believe that running on a treadmill is not as hard on your knees as running on pavement, concrete, or asphalt. No way, running in general is harsh on the knees no matter what the surface is. Your weight is forced upon your knees every time you run. The surface you choose to run on has no impact on the safety of the exercise.

Your knees will not benefit any better from the little bit of give the treadmill may give you. Your shoes can help absorb some of this impact. You are sorely mistaken if you believe that exercise has to be hard to make a difference. You will find out the next day and possibly peaking the day after that. When you decide to get in shape and hit the gym hard your first time out after a length of inactivity is when you will feel this the most. There is no reason to rush. In fact, see a doctor and get a quick check-up, then just go slow and you will have a better experience.

At the end of the day it is expected that you will be tired but you should try to get some exercise done and you will feel better. If you know what your natural circadian cycle is you would be able to reset it. Keep yourself alive by doing exercises in the morning but not too early. Your mind is the one that is tired and resistant, but once you break through your resistance and do some exercise after work your body will have more energy.

It's important for you to take the time to research everything in order to be able to clearly discern fact from fiction. Doing the research can only benefit you. If you are going to make the effort and expend the time to exercise, then it only makes good sense to learn how to do it right. This way you get the optimal benefit to your exercise program.
