What Are Some Reasons To Drink Green Tea And Not Black Tea?

Did you know that green tea and black tea are from the same exact source? Despite the fact that the colors are not the same, they both are obtained from a plant named camellia sinensis. Tea is identified as one of the healthiest beverages and both black and green teas are great for health. Just how are they different and more importantly which tea of the two offers more health benefits than the other tea?

Given that tea is a liquid, we will compare the two drinks from a taste viewpoint. Which drink is tastier is a personal preference; however green tea offers more of a bitter taste compared to black tea. Black tea has a richer flavor compared to green tea. Therefore, most new drinkers prefer black tea more than green tea. Even so understanding that tea is a nourishing drink, flavor might not be the main priority.

Even prior to tasting the drink, color differentiates the two teas. The colors are different due to the tea processing. Both teas go through similar processing except for the oxidation process. Green tea's preliminary dehydrating process is a brief procedure of steaming or panning which lessens oxidation. On the other side, black tea undergoes a full oxidation process which takes up to three hours. This procedure is the reason why flavor is richer and the color is darker. So what does that signify in regards to health rewards?

Camellia sinensis is naturally green same as many other plant. When considering food, one that is more processed typically sheds more of its organic ingredients. The same exact thinking also applies to tea leaves. Conserving the color green suggests it is going to have a lot more of the natural element, catechin.

Catechins are the active element found in the tea leaves. They are source for health benefits for example cancer prevention, heart disease, weight loss and bad cholesterol. Scientific experiments have revealed that a cup of green tea includes 8 times more catechins compared to black tea. In theory, you would need to consume eight more glasses of black tea than green tea to get the same degree of health benefits.

You can find results of many tests on the benefits associated with black tea. Some studies have been successful against diabetes, cardiovascular diseases and cancer. This highlights the restorative healing ability of camellia sinensis. No matter which kind of process it applies, the leaves will still be good for human body. Still it seems sensible to take in the tea which has more of the active substance. So why not start including green tea to your daily diet.
